2010 Challenge For Young New Zealanders

Make a short film.

It can be any length up to 5 minutes.

You can make it individually or in a team.

Use any camera you like.

Choose any genre you like and interpret ‘sustainability’ in the way that makes best sense to you.

Anyone up to the age of 24 can enter the challenge.

That means anyone born in 1986 or later who is a Citizen or Resident of New Zealand or is lawfully permitted to study or work in New Zealand.

The entry deadline is 17 September 2010.

Win Prizes

The Outlook for Someday Awards red-carpet ceremony will take place towards the end of 2010.

As in previous years there will be prizes for the maker(s) of the 20 Winning Films and the winners of the Special Awards.

This year there are 8 Special Awards:

  • Connected Media Film-making Achievement Award
    For a film with outstanding creative / technical quality
  • UNESCO Sustainable Future Award
    For a film which promotes dialogue on sustainability through a new perspective and/or critical thinking
  • TEAR Fund Social Justice Award
    For a film which addresses social justice as a sustainability issue
  • Department of Conservation Biodiversity Award
    For a film focusing on biodiversity and conservation in New Zealand
  • Ministry of Youth Development Youth Participation Award
    For a film with strong participation by young people among themselves and/or at a community level
  • Te Puni Kōkiri Te Reo & Tikanga Māori Award
    For a film making use of Te Reo and Tikanga Māori
  • WWF Secondary School Film-makers Award
    For a film made by young people of secondary school age
  • Enviroschools Primary / Intermediate School Film-makers Award
    For a film made by young people of primary or intermediate school age

There will also be a prize for Audience Favourite following the Vote.

And there will be prizes for 10 randomly picked Voters for Audience Favourite.

Have Your Film Screened

Winning Films will be screened:

  • Here on The Outlook for Someday website
  • On TVNZ 6 on both Freeview (channel 6) and SKY Television (channel 16)
  • At tvnz.co.nz
  • As podcasts from iTunes

There will also be a DVD compilation of the Winning Films like the ones made for previous The Outlook for Someday film challenges.
